My parents didn't get me the Polio vaccine so I have lived with a leg that is about 4 sizes smaller than the other. Wore an iron brace. Got bullied for it. Anti-science cranks are bad for our health.
Frank, thank you for speaking out. For what it’s worth, my husband, Terry, and I agree with you. Simply put: Kennedy is dangerous.
It’s profound we live in a day where so many profess to be anti science. We’re both sympathetic and alarmed to the plethora of reasons as to why, but truth is truth. As a country we must do better going forward. However, we’re both terrified this anti science path will not be corrected. This weighs heavily on our hearts because Terry is both a scientist and a professor of physics and I’m a former nurse turned educator. Where we sit as a country, on the topic of science and health is personal to us and I must add …frustrating, horrifying and tragic. We’re so scared about what can happen if Kennedy is confirmed. To that end, thank you for making your comments even more personal by visibly sharing a glimpse of the reality of polio.
You so often speak of your early family history. I’d like to share Terry is a former MK. I believe you’ll understand what this means. His family of seven was stationed in Brazil most of his youth. His dad was a missionary pilot. Terry can identify with many of your remarks about your prior Evangelical history. Like you, his reflections of his childhood and teen years are profound because of his parent’s association with this community.
The best to you, your wife, adult kids and grandkids. We both value your work and honesty with all of us. Don’t stop.
Frank, we so need your voice during these insane and frightening times. Thank you for sharing this story. I am grateful that my parents made sure I had all the necessary vaccines.
Wow! There have only been a couple of people I have known who actually exhibit the ravages of polio. It has been so removed that we don't see it anymore and so we think everything is ok. Thank you for the stark reminder. That is what science can do. We are not perfect, we make mistakes, but we also learn from our mistakes.
Very sad that people have dismissed the knowledge of scientists who have spent their lifetime trying to solve problems like these. It is absurd that they think we are always supposed to have the correct answer. If we were that powerful, we would have cured cancer a long time ago. These matters are insanely complex and being confronted with a new disease like COVID-19, we were forced to learn on the job.
I don't think the accusations about masks were correct either. Here in Japan, I consistently saw 1/100 the infections and deaths of the US. If a mask cuts 95% of the gunk going out from your respiratory tract (5% out) and prevents 50% of the gunk coming in (50% in), then the product of two independent probabilities is (0.05 x 0.5), which yields 40:1 advantage. If we scale the 100 infections and deaths by the population of Japan vs US, that is (2/5)100 = 40. If the American people had cooperated with the proposal to wear a mask, we would have experienced 1/40 the deaths and infections we had.
Thank you for telling us like it is. I remember I had an Uncle with Polio, he was from Fort Wayne, Indiana and he married my father's sister. He had the iron brace and a cane. He was a school teacher. I was born in 1955, so we were all vaccinated and my children etc. But now I have a niece in FL that's anti- Vax, She blames Autism comes from vaccines I tried to reason with her but to no avail. Just pray he's not confirmed and Congress gets theirtogether soon. soon.

Frank, thank you for always speaking "truth to power." You are appreciated more than you know-- especially at such a crucial time.

When someone asks why I am such a strong vaccine supporter I always respond, " Because I remember polio!"

Thank you Frank. I'm 70 and can remember the polio days clearly.
My family and I have quickly updated all our vaccines, incase Kennedy gets in and ends vaccines.
FKJ is a big mistake and Trump will regret
Thanks Frank schaeffer for sharing ok
