I agree with Frances Shaffer’s commentary. Thank you for putting yourself out there -— despite not only those who threaten us from

the far right Republican political camp but also by those in our own Democratic safety net who question or challenge our conviction that Biden is STILL a solid, proven and qualified candidate for President. In fact, some of us embrace his vulnerability and transparency. We see it like Jesus sees it — strength in the midst of common human weakness and frailty.

"strength in the midst of common human weakness and frailty."

Well said Dee.

Thank you! I’m struggling though to trust God with saving/protecting human intelligence and decency/empathy, our democracy: truth, justice, rule of law and the American constitution which somewhat reflects the kingdom of God on this earth. Not to mention — trusting Him to preserve a healthy set of core spiritual values. My husband and I are terrified at the prospect of a second Trump term — even more so because we live in Tn and are surrounded by blind/deaf Trump supporters. We feel like we’re living in an “altered” state or surreal world where the majority of Americans (and increasing number of Europeans) are turning to authoritarians and dictators to “solve” societal problems. If they would dig into (research) the facts of political platforms and agendas such as Project 2025 and listen to what the dictator candidate says — I don’t know how they can’t comprehend the dangers of turning over power to one person particularly when that individual is mentally sick, stupid, selfish, greedy, cruel & corrupt.

Thank you for this return to proper perspective, again . . . a splash of ice cold water in the face, just when we needed it. Bless you.

Thank you Frank, exactly my feelings!

I agree 1000%. We need to take a page from the MAGA manifesto: when Trump was convicted of 34 felonies, not a single Republican said a derisive word about Trump. Yet post debate, the Dems publicly turn on Biden in a collective anxiety attack…..?!??

That was no debate.trump never answered a single question.he used his time to spew lies

And never answered the questions.

Hear, hear. An honorable man against a liar, a thug, a felon, a rapist, a disgusting human being with no saving graces.

You, George, are who Frank is talking to. Shame on you.

Frank apparently has a lot of guilt he bears for his place in evangelical history, blaming himself for the rise of Trump. Any alternative to the Donald I think Frank would be relieved to support...

Really people? This man will bring down democracy by having Trump get elected again. He should've put his ego aside and not run again... "weakness and frailty" is NOT what we want for a president. Not only is he no longer capable, he's presiding over a bloody genocide--I wonder how Jesus/God would judge that.

The assertion of Biden's humanity is a bit of a stretch. Sure, he's better than the despicable ogre Donald Trump. But to call someone humane who presides over an incessant bombing campaign that has taken the lives of thousands of innocent people, is laughable. Such an assertion only proves that the Democrats are as morally bankrupt as the Republicans.

It is only a stretch if he weren’t human. I am speaking about his humanity, not whether he is humane. I don’t see the point in conflating Gaza in this discussion. This is another topic, another thing to delve into, that he is party to, and we are as well…whether we like it or not.

I'm sorry, but Mr. Biden was in large part incoherent. He may have done some good things, but the honorable thing to do now, for the good of the Country, is leave office with his legacy intact. In my opinion, neither man is fit for the job...

That's nice to know George. Now who are you voting for? That is the question we all want answered. What is George all about? Will he, being angry at Joe vote for the fascist to kill our country and many people I might add, or will George sit out the race and thus cast a vote for the fascist state? Not to put you on the spot George Davis but we all want to know.

It's not about his legacy. It's not about the debate. It's about his humanity, his life and his purported momentary incoherence is preferable over Trump's incessant quest to swallow up the country in his envy, pride and disordered soul.

The incoherence is chronic my friend...

Joe Biden has been a remarkable public servant and deserves heartfelt respect from a grateful nation. But ANY Democrat that runs in 2024 will run against Trump, so the discussion cannot be limited to Trump's obvious unfitness because any candidate will be benefitted by that. We must use open eyes and open ears to consider who might be better to represent moderate Americans in this next election...and I believe that we have amazing talent on the bench that is already tested and will not cause us to lose a possible majority in the House or Senate. That analysis brings us to the Democratic Governors in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Michigan...to just name four that are highly accomplished and already popular with voters. It isn't a loving or loyal act to position people in fights that they cannot win...and Joe deserves much more.
