I hear you. I understand your point about republicans feeling democrats were judging them. That's fair to point out. I get that. But Trump does this kind of judgment every day, all day long, proudly and loudly. As a sister and guardian of a special needs brother, I'm appalled with what Republicans will clap for, including making fun of a disabled reporter. Including violence against women. Including the removal of so many of our basic rights.

I grew up a Republican. But after so much struggle, so much violence against me personally, so much sadness, so much hypocrisy, I found that my values, my visions for the world and the future, and my own personal sense of humanity, just didn't align anywhere within the Republican Party. I still don't. I am a democrat by choice.

Democrats have some serious growing to do, no question. But at the end of the day, on election day, there were only 2 candidates in contention. Harris or Trump. I cannot say that I think that democrats deserved, or did lose to lose because of moral issues. We can debate all the reasons, but to say at this point, Trump is the better choice for our future, is something I just cannot see or understand, or feel I need deep reflection on. If I saw an outpouring of compassion and humanity from the Republican Party, then maybe the shortcomings of the Democrats to acknowledge the morality from the right, then maybe I would think differently.

I'm not seeing an ounce of humanity coming from the Republican Party right now. And they claim to be the Party of Morality. The true "Christians." Seriously? Children are hungry. Children are dying. Immigrants are treated like animals. Women and minorities treated like second class citizens. I could go on and on. And NO ONE on the right stands up to say to Trump: STOP THIS. They don't. The Republicans too, could take a look in the mirror. I don't like this division and hatred. But Peace- is a two-way street.

Wanna hear something crazy? The vast majority of my friends voted for Trump. Every single friend of mine, every.single.one., is an extremely honorable, decent human being. Virtually every one of them sacrifices themselves in some way to help the elderly or the disabled or just anyone less fortunate. They are by no means perfect, nor are any of us, but they are some of the best of the best.

How, then, could they support one of the most horrible people to ever have lived?

Good question.

I am a bereaved parent, as are most of my friends. Probably one of the reasons they devote their lives to helping others. “Healing through helping”, as one of them says.

In any case, I could not comprehend how such incredibly good people could vote for someone so abominable. This question plagued me the entirety of his first term and has haunted me in his second. I wanted to ask them, but wanted so badly not to upset them. We are bereaved parents. The pain many of us experience on a daily basis, especially during the early years, far surpasses that which others have any comprehension of. I could not bring a bereaved parent one more bit of pain than they already were forced to experience. How then, could I ever get an answer to this needling question?

I asked her sister.

Through one my most religious friends, I met her very nice, very kind, very Christian, very Trump supporting sister. I did not know her well, but knew her well enough to know she had not lost a child and that she devoted herself to helping those less fortunate.

I gathered my courage and asked her, how in the world could such amazing, religiously devout, compassionate people, like her and her sister, possibly vote for such a lying, hate mongering, adjudicated rapist like Trump?

Her response blew me away.

To quote Hermione Granger from Harry Potter, I was GOBSMACKED! The reason she gave me came right out of left field. It was an answer so crazy and unfathomable to me, that it never entered my mind, never could have entered my mind.

The answer she gave me was the exact opposite of everything I knew about the man. She told me that I was completely wrong. Trump was not a hate monger, he was a wonderful man! He was a very loving father! Unlike his horrible predecessor, Trump’s kids were wonderful, just like him. He was also a highly successful businessman. He was nothing short of wonderful in every way and shape imaginable. Off I didn’t believe her, I could look it up.

😳

Needless to say, non of that could be further from the truth, but that’s what they truly believe.

We need a major reset in this country back to character and integrity building with empathy and compassion and the emotions of regret and remorse with people having consciences to develop emotional maturity to be able to discern right from wrong. Today with all the narcissistic individualism and transactional toxic garbage everything is turned upside down.

What is right is wrong and wrong is right .

There is no appropriate role modeling from the presidency for the young people in this country .

So many young people have been emotionally compromised watching all of this .

The Republicans always talked about being the party of “family values” and the moral majority.

They have single-handedly stood by and let this fascist authoritarian take over happen .

Misuse of women and girls by powerful men is the misogynist patriarchy, and it’s been around for all of recorded history

Patriarchy is prevalent in traditional Christianity as well as the other organized religions

The cruel and dangerous phenomenon of boys choking and spitting on girls is the social media evolution of the patriarchy

Without discussion of the immorality of patriarchy, I’m sorry, but your video falls flat

The entire MAGA movement, which includes the power hungry tech bros, the perverts of the religious right, the hate consumed white supremacists and the wretched creatures of the manosphere, is predicated on patriarchal ideology, racism, bigotry and misogyny.

All you have to do is look around you today to verify this. Who bears the brunt of domestic abuse and violence, human trafficking, war, disenfranchisement, inequality and poverty in the world? Women, blacks, brown people, immigrants, minorities and children.

The times change but the usual perpetrators and script remains the same.

I am a survivor of multiple sexual abuse incidents. For some reason, I like to hear stories of people who suffered similarly to me. People surviving gives me hope.

Though I have never experienced either of these situations, Lately, I have been watching shows about sex trafficking and prostitution. This includes shows on the history of prostitution. Seeing these things makes it clear to me that what may seem like a victimless crime, rarely ever is.

Even if the person being photographed doesn’t feel abused at the time, one has to ask what abuse did they have to suffer, what grooming did they experience to get to that point?

I saw a show where a young man talked about the muck his father had to rescue him from in order to save the young man’s life. He had ended up drug addicted and in a foreign country, just moments from death before he called his father in desperate need of help.

It all started out so simply. An older man got his email, befriended him, and slowly got to the point where he asked the then boy, to take off his shirt. Don’t worry, the older man said. It’s just your shirt. I’ll pay you $25. Little by little, he coaxed the boy to take off more and more, then to meet other people,….. the boy had hundreds of thousands of dollars, but could barely find a reason to live.

This story is one of the better ones. I wish I could go into every pornographic picture these people look at and give them the story of how that person got to that point. I think the vast majority of stories would cause a lot of people to think about becoming celibate.

The Un-United USA has lost it's democracy. We are now under authoritarian rule. The richest, formally most powerful country in the world, The United States of America has been added to the CIVICUS Monitor Global Human Rights Watchlist, a research tool that publicizes the status of freedoms and threats to civil liberties worldwide, because the US is losing its Basic Human Rights, especially women's rights and our democracy is being destroyed by the trump and his administration from hell! America we are no where near the numbers we need to save our democracy. We require just 3.5% (11 million American protesters) of the US population to effectively stand up to end the trump regime! The last two mass protests had an estimated 3-5 million participates each. That means we all need to encourage at least three more people to support the resistance and attend upcoming protests with us.

Führer tRump has launched the initial stages of genocide in America! Everyday for over three years soldiers in Ukraine have been risking their lives and dying to protect their democracy. Families in Gaza are being denied access to food, clean water, medical care or anyone to defend them. Mothers and Fathers are literally watching their children intentionally starved to death. All so the Israeli and US dictators can turn Gaza into a resort town for billionaires. It is not possible to believe in God and support dictators. Shamefully, many Americans are just sitting back watching our democracy crash all around us. Most aren't even aware that the beginning stages of genocide have begun in the USA. Our civil rights are already disappearing. The least we woke Americans can do, is encourage everyone we know, to learn and talk about the resistance, boycott a few billionaire businesses and show up at some peaceful protests!!! BEWARE America if we don't take a stand now we could end up like Ukraine or Gaza!

More URGENT ACTIONS to help end the madness. Here are some ways to help end the reign of the tRump/Musk regime. Don't stop resisting!

He's going to need the power of the people to demand the change we need to take the power away from the billionaire oligarchs, restore our civil rights, rebuild our economy and do save our democracy.

If I Can Dream

Song by Elvis Presley ‧ 1968

There must be lights burning brighter somewhere

Got to be birds flying higher in a sky more blue

If I can dream of a better land

Where all my brothers walk hand in hand

Tell me why, oh why, oh why can't my dream come true

Oh why

There must be peace and understanding sometime

Strong winds of promise that will blow away the doubt and fear

If I can dream of a warmer sun

Where hope keeps shining on everyone

Tell me why, oh why, oh why won't that sun appear

We're lost in a cloud

With too much rain

We're trapped in a world

That's troubled with pain

But as long as a man

Has the strength to dream

He can redeem his soul and fly

Deep in my heart there's a trembling question

Still I am sure that the answer, answer's gonna come somehow

Out there in the dark, there's a beckoning candle, yeah

And while I can think, while I can talk

While I can stand, while I can walk

While I can dream

Oh, please let my dream

Come true

Right now

Let it come true right now

Oh yeah

Frank, I have to say you’re so out of touch with everyday Dems that it’s almost laughable. The picture you paint of the Democratic Party as a far left elitist and amoral group sounds as if you’ve formed this hysterical view through the lens of FOX News. Im not saying that these sorts of people don’t exist within the party, but these sorts are just as likely to attack the party as they are to attack MAGA. Think of the Sanders cry babies for an example. These sorts are Dem supporters so long as they are catered to but will leave the instant they don’t get 100% of what they want. They are not Democrats but opportunists.

The Dem voters I know - and I know and have known plenty in my 80 years - are not idealistic rigid nut jobs. Many are still church and synagogue attendees, volunteers at schools, sports and many other things. In a word, “normal.”

I find most Trump supporters - and I know, and am even related, to many - use “morals” as a cover up for what they are: stupid, ignorant, and above all, racist. Take your pick. What they are not doing is making choices because they’re “moral.” And I think your framing of the divide btw Dems & MAGA as one between morality and immorality to be a vestigial concern from your upbringing. The public sphere of the USA must never be one where “morality” is uttered. We are a CIVIL society, based on laws pondered and enacted by humans, and not one where “morality” should ever be in the discussion. Whose morality would we follow?

I could go on but I’ll leave you with one final example: supporters of a woman’s right to choose is NOT pro-abortion but pro anybody’s right to choose, and on the other side, the fervor to eliminate abortion is NOT pro-life but anti-choice. One is a claim on legal civil rights, and one is a religious claim. You seem to be saying that those of us who love & respect the founding principles of this land need to trim our sails & be tolerant of these exemplars of intolerance, all in the name of getting votes. Have I correctly heard you?

I agree with you. I was raised Baptist and belonged to Evangelical churches most of my life. Covid denial, conspiracy theorists, and Trumpism within the church turned me away. I saw Bishop Budde speak at the inaugural service. I found an Episcopal church in my neighborhood and am Episcopalian now. My mother’s side of the family has circuit rider preachers in their lineage. Evangelical used to be a good thing. It meant to spread the Good News of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Now since politics have gotten in bed with the evangelical church, it is no longer about Jesus and love. I will NEVER attend an Evangelical church again because of the hatred and division and their screwing up my country and taking our freedoms away. I have split from old friends and relatives over Trumpism. They all think since I’m Democrat that means I’m in danger of hell. They should open their eyes at who they elected and all the evil he is doing to harm people. Each person needs to look in the mirror and judge that person first, not look at and condemn others who are not like them.

Frank I agree with your broad strokes and that this is a moral (I'll add cultural) divide not a money divide. But it is not the democats fault any more than it is the republicans fault. We have lived through times of turmoil (Vietnam, JFK and Bobby and MLK Assasinations, Nixon tapes, Iran Contra, Desert Storm, Afganistan, Iraq, 9 11, Covid) and we have lost faith in institutions including our religious ones. People have left thier beliefs or they have doubled down on them. Both reactions to the lies and deceptions of what they trusted the most.

So now is the time to reinvent our government.

A New Vision for America: A Democratic Renewal

Governance isn’t about imposing authority. It’s about serving, adapting, and ensuring the foundations of democracy remain strong. Right now, leadership is defined by reaction and showmanship—by power exerted rather than principles upheld. That’s not how the government was designed to function. It is not how the United States sees itself.

It’s time for a return to structure and principles. Drawing from the wisdom of the Founders, the pragmatism of Eisenhower, the principles of Lincoln and the realities of modern economics, this vision offers a path forward—one grounded in constitutional integrity, economic pragmatism, and civic empowerment.

________________________________________

Restoring Constitutional Integrity

In the United States freedom is something guaranteed. The Bill of Rights wasn’t written to serve one ideology or one generation. It was written to protect speech, privacy, due process, and balance in governance.

The priority is simple: strengthen these foundations. Ensure checks and balances work. Make government transparent, accountable, and answerable to the people, not just to political interests.

This means we need to use our current technology to allow us to be more involved in our governance by having better connections to our representatives in Congress and our Executive Branch. We need to continually have access to these representatives and not allow them to govern without our consent or by pretending they have a mandate on certain issues that suit their needs not the people’s needs.

________________________________________

Economic Pragmatism

America’s economy shouldn’t be dictated by outdated fears of debt and deficit. Alexander Hamilton understood the need for investment—in industry, infrastructure, and national prosperity. It is imperative that we reinstate this mindset.

Modern Monetary Theory describes the way government spends—not through arbitrary constraints but through resource-based fiscal management. This vision includes direct job creation, infrastructure revitalization, and inflation-aware taxation policies—not reactionary spending cuts, made up debt ceilings, or political gamesmanship to promote cultural beliefs rather than economic realities.

________________________________________

Civic Engagement

Democracy fails when people aren’t informed. Madison saw this risk and built safeguards into our system. That responsibility isn’t just government’s—it’s everyone’s.

Voting should be protected, accessible, and secure. Education should ensure that every citizen understands governance, not just reacts to it. Communities and individuals should drive policymaking, not just respond to top-down initiatives.

________________________________________

Foreign Policy & Military Accountability

Eisenhower saw what unchecked militarization could do to a nation. He warned against the military-industrial complex, against interventionism disguised as diplomacy. Those lessons remain crucial.

National security should be strategic, not excessive. Military spending should be resource-based, not fear-driven. Foreign policy should favor diplomacy over intervention. Stability comes from alliances, not conflicts. Military and economic power is not a tool for leverage but a means to get needs met around the world. Peace through honest negotiation, not intimidation.

________________________________________

Defining a Clear Choice

The direction of leadership today is intimidation—power applied to influence and threaten rather than seek cooperation through collaboration. Intimidation is not how governance should work. People deserve a real choice—one that embraces the wisdom of the Founders, the pragmatism of Eisenhower, the principles of Lincoln and the economic reality of today.

This isn’t about reverting to the past. It’s about using core principles to shape a future that works—for communities, for industries, for governance itself. The goal isn’t control. It’s function. Function of governance that listens to and works with the people. Not just the wealthy or the connected. But works with and for the people most affected by the decisions being made. Current technology can help us with that.

That’s the vision. That’s the path forward.
