Well, today is the anniversary of the 1963 March on Washington to impeach Richard Nixon. Propitious day. Maybe should a several million march on DC ourselves? Probably a metro nightmare getting there and back, though. Gosh, and back then we thought Nixon was the devil incarnate. Little did we know what was to come. Today his indiscretions would just be shrugged off. Are we now at the bottom of the slippery slope and facing the forces of Hell full on? I am minded that what we don’t appreciate we lose. Our democracy is precious and fractured. When we get it mended, we are going to have to be a lot more vigilant and filled with awe and gratitude. I am also reminded of the Chinese parable about the broken porcelain cup that was put back together with molten gold. It is precious because it is fixed and because it now holds tea again. Let us keep the Ancestors and the precious legacy they left with us top of mind and forevermore eschew complacency. So be it.
