Presenting my It Has to Be Read. selection for the month of February, 2025, American Heretics: Religious Adversaries of Liberal Order by Jerome E. Copulsky
Sorry, but ninety-four minutes is simply too long to listen to; practically a 'book on tape!' I've enjoyed your insight and content, but with the overwhelming amount of chaos being shoveled at all of us non-stop, and a wide variety of sources of information from various content providers, I feel compelled to speak up. It is too much. If I did, it only be adding even more bewilderment, fear, anger, and sadness to already overwhelming days (these current days). I would recommend something shorter and more reasonable. Of course, that's just one reporter's opinion.
I have known of your father and you since my days at Westmont College in Montecito (Santa Barbara). I am so deeply grateful to have left all that dogma (self-righteous, judgmental piety, and hypocrisy) behind so long ago. As a gay man of a gay father, it led to my father's suicide and came close to doing me in as well. And NOW the same religious zealots (cultists) are doing even worse damage far more rapidly through Trump and Project 2025. I can no longer really believe "in a God" because if He/She/They existed, Trump would have been removed from our lives long ago out of compassion on us and some sense of justice. But no...instead he thrives with the most blatant cruelty and corruption I've ever been aware of. A truly damaged man. A very dangerous man. Friends used to draw parallels between Trump and Hitler, and I'd think it absurd. No more. Soon enough, I think we will find that it is far worse.
I hear you. But love how you point out the length of this podcast with a comment of great length itself! You BOTH have great passion and should both be heard no matter how long! There's MUCH to share!💗
I'm a 70 year old queer man living in Pennsylvania. Thank you for your insight.
I hope your journey as a gay parent has been fruitful. There is a lot of information here , I agree. Again, another podcast that proves how little I know. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you for this recommendation. I bought it and will read. My background is Reformed Presbyterian (currently atheist) and I would love to learn more about the role of my former sect in the history of the United States.

You are correct. Sometimes my ‘angst’ and bewilderment don't have a place to go, and I goof. Self-care is hard in the midst of all this insanity. ❤️
How do recreate a 2025 ACT UP?
I'm seriously afraid for my community.

I've found that the people who've LIVED what they write about, passionately, are those I tend to believe and trust the most!🙏
Great interview. It's anybody's guess what's coming next in political ideology on either side of the Atlantic, and beyond.
I read Francis Schaeffer's Christian Manifesto when it first appeared in 1982 or thereabouts. The topics written about back then haven't gone away.

Absolutely fantastic, alot I didn't know but really clarified our current problems. Thanks
