It is time to both reject the perverse gifts of the Tech Bros, and take back what has been stolen from us by so many of the ill-advised sexual liberation movements of the past.
Thank you for this post. Although, I think you give Big Tech too much credit when you call it "unthinking" or "unintended". The record shows that they knew very well what was going to happen—to individuals and even to entire societies.
The good news is that legal actions (and, more slowly even, the law itself) has started to catch up with the crisis:
As for AI—IMO, it's not helpful to present it as an either/or. The very same solutions that will help keep AI from harming folks now (humanistic design, algorithmic transparency) also will help inoculate against even stronger emergent dangers from AI in the future.
I'm not sure the sexual revolution per se' is the core problem, here. The commodification of all aspects of our life (including, eg, relationships, intimacy, and so forth) might be what I would call out.
Nonetheless, I saw you on Thom's show and am happy to continue to receive your thoughts on these matters. We need more people taking a stand. Well done.
