What the gay rights movement understood about love and belonging, and why those same lessons are urgent for a generation drifting into loneliness and uncertainty.
I love this relationship you have with your wife Jeannie and I believe every single person, deep down in their soul, is longing for such blessing to have in their life.
However, blaming "libs" ( I hate putting labels on people) is neither healthy nor constructive.
People nowadays are waking up to the harsh reality of their whole lives lived with constraints and hard sacrifices just to meddle into a good neighbourhood to get accepted by the society.
If we talk about labels let's say that both far right men and progressive women are feeling not valued enough or respected enough. You cannot have one side hold the supreme truth while ignoring the other side.
Until men will learn to accept the quintessential value of a woman and stop feeling threatened and emasculated by the women in general there won't be a "blinding, servile acceptance " of men.
Maybe someone like you should teach the boys and men HOW to appreciate and view women like you do respect your lifelong friend and wife Jeannie ... and, maybe then the "libs" will look for a meaningful and long lasting relationship such yours.♥️
Until then women won't wait for a man to support them financially and will get a job to earn a living and be fulfilled... until the right man comes along !
Dear Frank, I never get tired of your colorful mind and your bravery in speaking it loud and clear. I TOO AGREE ABOUT COMMITMENT AND FAMILY AND TRULY LOVING. As a young woman, I married, had 2 children, and was divorced against my wishes. Life goes on. I remarried but that had even worse issues, and we divorced. Because of close friendship, family ties, and raising our children, the first husband & I continued to be close friends. I would have given anything to have made it work. After over 40 years we finally reunited! I suspected he had some dementia but it only made him more affectionate. Five years later he died and I thank God for everyday that we had together. What a gift! There is nothing more important than this family love. I have our memories, our children, grandchildren, and now 3 great- grandchildren.
Some women would love to have that good marriage you describe but it hasn’t materialized for them. So they’ve adjusted their expectations and have found contentment and meaning in other pursuits. Some women have had really bad spouses who treated them poorly and are much more at peace since their divorces. Some women are trying to navigate a dating world in which the available pool of men are disappointing at best, toxic at worst. Many have decided that having their own money, career, and peace of mind is preferable to the stress of dating. Some women have found all the joy and happiness they need by becoming single mothers by choice. I don’t believe society or “liberalism” is telling women to not value marriage or deep romantic connection, I think it’s women who are telling society “this is how it is for me; this romantic ideal you’ve sold me is not working out the way you said it would, so I’m choosing a different path.” I’ve heard there’s a loneliness epidemic among young single men; my suggestion to them is to step up their game. Be the kind of man an intelligent well-educated feminist woman would actually want to spend time with and you might have more success. Instead we see them embracing “red pill” misogyny or demanding that women become “trad wives.” Women aren’t having it.
I think he's really confused because that's not what liberal and the left is all about at all. I don't know where he's heard all that crap. Some of that is definitely republican and far right.
I agree with 90% of your message. Ironically, my marriage fell apart after I put my career on hold to stay home with my kids. I was treated like I was less intelligent and capable, despite having had a very interesting career, and the aspiration to return to one. It was very difficult to break back into full-time work. But I eventually did. I don’t regret staying home. I just wish I’d held some boundaries better. I think I’m really going to enjoy listening to the Gospel of Zip. Thank you!
I'm almost finished listening. In fact stayed up late without realizing the time. This is such an insightful story and I love that Zip acts as your bellwether not only with your wife’s health, but assisting you along your path of uncovering the authentic you!
Perhaps the liberal death wish is unconsciously informed by the fact that the US is quite literally a "culture" of death.
Its two most culturally formative institutions are the Pentagon based military-industrial-entertainment/propaganda complex, the death saturated zeitgeist of which patterns & controls every minute fraction of the US psyche and culture - death is quite literally in the air!
What a valuable read this is. As we struggle to understand why anyone would vote for Trump, everyone chews on a few popular ideas, but this new one is a great addition to add to the collection. And the value isn't only for the idea, but for the good writing. I'm going to restack it, and also, to help spread it around, I'll to cross-post it to my 3K+ subscribers. Then I'll pick up on your book, which may give me more to say.
PS: I am jealous. I made it to 17 years with my husband , starting when I was a freshman in college, when, although graduating Phi Beta Kappa and summa cum laude, it was a time when I expected to be a housewife, and when Women's Lib came along, more's the pity it was the beginning of the end for being Mrs. Him.
PPS: I have twin daughters, 58 and married. They are extraordinarily loving creatures, but don't want to bring children into this world as it promises to be. So, there's another reason, besides chasing money and success, for a reduced population of people who would make it a better world.
Sue I explained another reason a lot of decent people voted for Trump here: https://substack.com/home/post/p-179471220 They had it with Democrats because of our schools and thought Trump was going to go after the pedophiles. I know because so many I was working with deserted me for him.
How to get what you know to be known? A friend who was struggling with a book just told me it finally had sales when he was on a popular podcast with it. Have you checked into that?
Huh... interesting article but I think you're miscontextualizing a lot of this left right stuff,, by definition people on the left are smarter than people on the right so they will probably at a younger age Express more varied desires than the typical white picket fence scenario... and interesting because you seem to be picking up on a lot of the great replacement or whatever the right wing calls the tendency of Americans to get married less often,, and AGAIN lay it all at the feet of the so-called left issues like women's liberation and women in the workforce... I noticed you're cutting gay people a lot of slack which is cool imo BUT while I agree with you that gay marriage is something to be commended rather than vilified,, that's usually thrown in to the mix by the right wing as one of the signs of the degradation of American culture... Personally I believe society is stronger by accepting lbgt, because accepting these things societally encourages families to do the same which encourages cohesion both in families and in the larger culture… but this malaise you're describing affects people gay OR straight in whether they want to get into a long-term relationships or not,, and I guess my point is that I think you're being as narrow as Ted Kaczynski was in conducting HIS manifesto because you seem to be blaming the problems of society on the same thing,, wokeism lol… are you sure you may not be suffering from the bill Maher syndrome,, FORMERLY liberal but now crotchety old geezer who can't remember what being young is?
Because it's not JUST “the left” that isn't marrying anymore,, because while the right includes more people who by tradition do what their parents did there's still plenty that dontmy point is that I believe it is the economic system and the dog eat dog of cutthroat capitalism being ingrained into every single facet of American culture that is destroying society,, not women's liberation or young people deciding not to get married, because young people can always change their mind.. but when they come out of high school and decide they better jump into college for that cushy desk job rather than actually get their hands dirty and working for a living like I did when I was younger,, OF COURSE they're going to get this dog eat dog money is everything let's pile up a bunch of acorns like a good squirrel mindset,, whether they're gay straight right left whatever... and yeah, the ad mill of Madison Avenue teaches kids from the day they're born that they're only as valuable as what they have or what they can get,, teaching them individuality is better than group existence because it drives consumerism so why don't we complain about that, rather than putting the cart before the horse and suggesting that young people pine for that day when they're old and gray and they got the grandkids all around them, obviously their blood is going a little too fast to feel that right now.... I envy you and your relationship, I sincerely do and MAAAAAYbe my viewpoint comes from a little darker side of the spectrum LOL but in any case,, suggesting people in a society should just straighten up and be healthy when the society around them is so disgustingly sick that it's amazing it's even going right now,, imo it's sorta misdiagnosing the problem... for one thing there's a lot of other demographics of people who are being hideously and stupidly abused in america,, but I noticed you only mentioned people who use substances in a sort of derogatory manner, as if that's just one more sign of the degradation of culture... actually the use of substances has been going on since before prehistory,, but because of the lunacy of religious fundamentalists thinking that they can legislate morality, we have lives being ruined people being killed and worldwide corruption as well as spiraling violence because of some idiots wanting to fix the world... I've supported gay rights my entire adult life even when I didn't want to, but yet I get not sympathy one from lbgt people with regard to getting with helping eliminate prohibition,, I guess as long as they got their special interest met, that was as far as they want to go... ah well ,, such as life...

I don't like nazis racist bigoted assholes running my country or should he say ruining my country. That does not make me happy.
I have no children and I'm happy.
You are sounding more and more like your parents. Yuck

Agree 1000% women having choices shouldn't be called a death wish for society
Bold of you to think everyone wants the same things as you and those who don’t are somehow lost.
I think he's really confused because that's not what liberal and the left is all about at all. I don't know where he's heard all that crap. Some of that is definitely republican and far right.

it's a death cult

At another deeper level the US is now suffering from an advanced form of the Wetiko Psychosis as explained here: http://www.awakeninthedream.com/undreaming-wetiko-introduction

Always love reading you, Frank.
